Veterans & Hearing Loss in North Texas

A Community Resource for Veterans Living With Hearing Loss

Hearing loss and tinnitus are among the most common service-connected conditions for U.S. veterans. In Texas, the veteran population is large and deeply rooted — more than 1.4 million veterans live in the state, and nearly 400,000 reside in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. With such a strong veteran presence, hearing loss is a reality for many families in our community.

HLAA Dallas does not provide clinical services, VA counseling, or professional claims assistance.
Instead, our role is to act as a local resource, helping veterans and their families find the information, connections, and community they may need.

Here’s how we position ourselves:

1. Information & Awareness (Not Professional Services)

We share reliable, publicly available information about:

  • Understanding hearing loss and tinnitus
  • How to find VA audiology services in North Texas
  • Basic steps for accessing hearing evaluations
  • General guidance for exploring hearing aids and assistive technology
  • Local and national hearing-related resources specifically for veterans

All information is based on lived experience, peer discussions, and community knowledge — not professional expertise.

2. Navigation Through Shared Experience

Many of our members have personal experience with hearing loss, navigating the VA system, using hearing devices, or finding accessible solutions in everyday life.

As a chapter, we:

  • Point veterans toward official VA resources
  • Share tips from people who have been through the process
  • Offer peer perspective on what to expect when seeking hearing care in Dallas

We do not handle claims, casework, or formal advocacy services — but we can share what we’ve learned along the way.

3. Connection to Community & Peer Support

HLAA Dallas provides space for connection — a welcoming environment where veterans can:

  • Meet others living with hearing loss
  • Learn from peers
  • Hear about local accessibility information
  • Stay connected to national HLAA programs, including the Veterans Across America Chapter

This is a community-sharing model, not a service program.

4. Local Context That Matters

With nearly 400,000 veterans living in the DFW metro area, hearing loss impacts a wide range of:

  • Working professionals
  • Retirees
  • Student veterans
  • Families and caregivers

By sharing local information — such as VA locations, community accessibility options, and hearing-friendly resources across Dallas — HLAA Dallas helps veterans stay informed and empowered.
