The chapter is part of the national Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), whose overall mission is “to open the world of communication to people with hearing loss by providing information, education, support, and advocacy.”

Happy New Year!

Greetings HLAA Dallas Members!

Hope you all enjoyed your holiday break and celebrated the new year. As things normalizes back on January 4th for many of you so will HLAA Dallas.

We will be in the same room A120 (auditorium) at the Medical City Dallas Heart Hospital at 11970 North Central Expressway, Dallas, TX 75243 (If Jason feels okay he will show up with the kiddos at this meeting and he will have CI surgery Tuesday on 13th.)

David will take the helm at this meeting and we will have guest speaker Jamie Hand from Starkey. She will share with you the latest hearing aid technology and assistive devices, about the company and Starkey Foundation. A little bit of everything.

After Jamie Hand’s Starkey presentation concludes there will be “Support Group Huddle” where everyone is gathered in a small group in a circle and start sharing hearing loss journey, supporting each other, listening to one another, and to get to know each other a bit more.

Volunteering Opportunities

Some of you asked to volunteer and this is an opportunity to open and share what your strengths are and fit in how you can help.

How you can help in the areas to make this chapter grow are these examples:

  1. greeting people as they come in, directing them to sign in and have a name tag,
  2. technology setup/take down, sending out reminders using out outlook email system to our members and/or using website to post messages and it will send out the alerts about upcoming events, calls to action, etc.
  3. look for community events to bring awareness of HLAA Dallas to others such as attending to a nearby senior center, senior independent/assisted living communities, etc.
  4. look for free opportunities to setup table and resources in the community
  5. membership & database
  6. And as the chapter grows we will then establish annual voting for officers and board of directors and will discuss the roles of each so each member can become familiar and what the expectations are, etc.
